Longing for a Smile

By Miranda Lynne Bevilacqua

I can tell you that it has been a little while

Since I have appreciated the sight of a smile

Breath after breath, I inhale this cloth

Simple smells, I realize I have forgot

Your beautiful eyes, trying to give me a sign

Unfortunately, I am trying to read your mind

Subtle facial movements previously taken for granted

The twitch of a nose or the way your mouth dances

I I ask too you then to speak repeat louder, yourself, a simple as I cannot command understand

An attempted connection, an awkward transaction

Longing for a more intimate interaction

I can tell you my friend, it has been a while

Since I have longed for the sight of a smile
